How to Make
Full steps are in the printable recipe card below. This is a quick walk through with images on how to make French Onion pork chops.
Step One: Start by placing your pork chops in a 9×13 casserole dish. I did 4 large pork chops, but you are welcome to do as many as you want.
Step Two: In a small bowl add your sour cream and onion soup mix together. Mix until well combined.
Step Three: Pour the sour cream mixture over the top of the pork chops, and spread to make sure it covers the whole surface of the pork chops.
Step Four: Next you will top with the crispy fried onions. Just spread into an even layer. Then toss in the oven and bake as directed.
Once done, serve with your favorite side dishes and devour.

Variations and Tips to Recipe
- Make sure the pork chops are in a single layer. Otherwise the pork will not cook up evenly and you could have some areas that overlap don’t cook all the way through.
- Add on a layer of cheese on top of the pork chops. Mozzarella cheese or provolone cheese would pair nicely with the flavors of French onion soup. The cheese melts on top of each pork chop but won’t brown up. I recommend grating fresh cheese instead of slice of cheese pre-cut, as they contain extra starches.
- The creamy gravy in the pan is delicious. Spoon onion mixture on top of the pork chops for a flavorful gravy to pair with the chops.
- I used a thicker cut pork chops. It was about 1 1/2 inch thick, but depending on thickness of the pork, the cook time will vary.
- You can grease your baking dish with cooking oil before you start if you want. It will help prevent sticking. Or even use a cast iron skillet to bake them in.
- You can use boneless chops if you want, just adjust the cook time if the chops are thinner.
- Add some sliced onions on the bottom of the pan, this will add more flavor. Use a white or yellow onion and slice thinly. The onions will break down as it bakes.
Sides To Pair With Pork Chops
Not sure what to serve as your favorite sides for this dish? I love to do a vegetable side dish. Peas is what I chose but you could do almost any side dish. Cucumber and onions, vegetable salad, roasted broccoli, the possibilities are endless.
I have even served scalloped potatoes on the side for special occasions when I am wanting to elevate the dinner. But both are a bit heavy so I only do that on special occasions. Pair with any of your easy weeknight dinner that the whole family will enjoy.
Storing Leftovers
Refrigerate any leftovers you don’t eat right away. These baked pork chops can store for 3-4 days in the fridge. Then just reheat in the microwave, or opt to cook them in the oven.
If you heat up in the oven, make sure to cover the pan with foil if you reheat in the oven. This will help prevent the pork chops from drying out.

I was very disappointed with this recipe. The sour cream and onion soup mix separated during baking in the oven. I will not be making this dish again.

could you replace sour cream with mayo
Kelsey says
You could or you could even use a Greek Yogurt. I am not sure how the mayo would taste but you could for sure try.
