If you don’t really know much about the Bloody Mary, it is a vodka based hangover cure! A tomato cocktail that offers tons of variations. From using the Zing Zang or creating a homemade base like me.
Whether you add in a slice of bacon, shrimp cocktail, or even load it up with pickles, drunken tomatoes, and stuffed olives like me! Let me walk you through this brunch cocktail.
What Do Bloody Marys Taste Like
Spicy, salty, tomato flavored cocktail. This is a very savory cocktail recipe, so if you love tomato and salty things, then this bloody mary is great. The Creole seasoning adds a nice splash of spice along with the Tabasco sauce.
How Much Alcohol Is In A Bloody Mary
You are in charge of how much alcohol is in your bloody mary. Add in a shot or two, for the perfect ratio to fit your needs. Many will aim for around 4-6 ounces of vodka per bloody mary recipe.
Bloody Mary Garnishments
This is where you can get creative and decide what garnishments fit your tastebuds. This vodka cocktail is versatile and you can pick and choose what you want. This tomato juice vodka has a ton of garnishments to pick and choose from.
- Stuffed Olives (I used pimento-stuffed olives)
- Drunken Tomatoes
- Celery
- Moonshine Pickles or Regular Dill Pickles
- Limes
- Lemons
- Pickled Okra
- Pearl Onions
- Bacon
- Shrimp Cocktail
- Baby Corn
- Pepperoni Straws
The list truly goes on and on. You can even stick on grilled cheese on top, loaded mini slider cheeseburgers, and more. Whip up whatever you want and pair with your thirst-quenching cocktail recipe.
How To Dress The Rim Of A Bloody Mary Cocktail
For this recipe, I used Creole seasoning. I put water around the rim of the glass and then poured some Creole cajun on a plate. Then dipped the top of glass on the plate and rolled it around to coat the edge. You can use anything, I just loved the cajun spice.
V8 Juice As Base of Bloody Mary Drink
I used V8 in this recipe. You can use a regular v8, spicy v8, or even a plain tomato juice. I do recommend buying quality tomato juice since it will be one of the main flavors of this drink.
Can I Make A Non-Alcoholic Bloody Mary
Absolutely! Just leave the vodka out and make a Virgin Bloody Mary! Just make sure to load up on all the garnishments and enjoy dipping into the tomato base and enjoying all the flavors! This can be a great non-alcoholic Bloody Mary drink.

Where Did The Term “Bloody Mary” Come From
The term Bloody Mary is unknown fully of where or when it came about. There is talk that in the 16th century around the Queen Mary Tudor of England. But that is all I know.
Is A Bloody Mary A Hangover Cure
Some call this the “hair of the dog” drink. A Bloody Mary is said that it can help aid in recovering from a hangover. This is because the drink is a vegetable-based cocktail that should help settle the stomach.
Because of the higher salt intake, it can help in replenishing any electrolytes you lost. Plus some swear that vodka is amazing for relieving the hangover headache.
Now, to say this will cure your hangover, I can’t say. But, it is totally worth whipping up this colorful drink and sipping morning, noon or night!
