Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

Asparagus Proscuitto is a dynamic duo that has been paired for years. I am all about tasty but yet simple and that is why this prosciutto is at the top of my list.

If you are looking for a holiday appetizer or even game day snacking, this is a great low carb recipe. You can even add cheese on top for an added flavor pairing to this three-ingredient appetizer.

What Is The Difference Between Bacon and Prosciutto

Prosciutto is a salt-cured meat that has been air-dried for months. You are able to eat prosciutto without cooking it. Bacon, on the other hand, is a cured meat that is still raw and needs to be cooked up in a skillet or oven.

Pancetta is only cured so it has to be cooked before serving. Roasted asparagus spears with a thin slice of prosciutto offers an elegant look and incredible flavor.

Asparagus Prosciutto

My son does not like vegetables. If they are raw he will munch on them. But if it is Wrapped in Bacon or Prosciutto he doesn’t think twice. He is a meat lover! Asparagus is tender and loaded with flavor. A lighter side dish that isn’t a starchy side dish.

How to Prep Asparagus

  • Wash and pat dry your asparagus.
  • Now lay your asparagus out on a cutting board, and grab a chef’s knfe.
  • Line up your spears and then where the stalks turn white to green is where you want to cut. This will get rid of the woody party of the asparagus.
  • Or you can hold the asparagus spear and bend it and it will naturally snap where it needs to on the stalk.

How to Make Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

  • Start by trimming up your asparagus with the tips I listed above. Then preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
  • Toss your spears with the oil and feel free to season with salt and pepper if you would like.
  • Now, if you are going to add in cheese you will sprinkle some cheese on one edge of the prosciutto, and then lay the asparagus wedge on top.
  • Now wrap the asparagus until the fully wrapped up in the prosciutto.
  • Leave 1″ space in between on baking sheet that is lined with aluminum foil or a Silpat mat.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until your asparagus is tender.

Can I Make Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus In The Instant Pot

Yes, you will simply place a cup of water into the Instant Pot and then sit down the trivet. Then season and wrap your asparagus with the prosciutto and set them on the trivet. Do high pressure for 3 minutes and then steam release naturally. Then serve.

What Else Can You Wrap Asparagus In

  • Thinly sliced ham
  • Bacon (make sure the bacon gets fully cooked)

Wrapped appetizers are my favorite, and those are the other two meats I use for wrapping asparagus.

How To Wrap Asparagus in Bacon

You will oil your spears and prep them like normal. Then wrap thin-sliced bacon around one spear or bundle it with 3-4 spears per slice of bacon. Then place in a 400 degree oven for 22-30 minutes or until the bacon is crisp and cooked through. Serve warm.
