Ingredients Needed
Self-Rising Flour – I used self-rising flour for this recipe. It has all the ingredients to allow the flour to rise and become fluffy as it bakes.
Sugar – Granulated sugar is what I used to add sweetness to the cobbler.
Milk – I do recommend whole milk as it will add the richest flavor to the dish.
Butter – Salted butter is what I used. If you use unsalted butter then add a pinch of salt to the dry ingredients.
Peaches – Canned peaches that are drained will be the base of the peach recipe. Drain off the juice whether it is heavy syrup or fruit juice.
How to Make Self-Rising Flour With All-Purpose Flour?
For every 1 cup of all-purpose flour, you will need to add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix well and use.
You can turn all-purpose flour into self-rising flour you can use in any recipe. This is the easiest way to make your own flour mixture. You can make it and store it in an airtight container for using flour later if you make more than you need.

Expert Tip: Add a 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon with the peaches to add a nice warm spice tone to the cobbler. Even a little nutmeg would be delicious.

Variations to Recipe
Here are some ways to change up the fruit cobbler. This is a great recipe for a beginner cook as it is super simple to make and the whole thing is quick and easy.
- You can use frozen peaches if you want. Just add the frozen peaches in frozen, don’t thaw them first.
- Add a splash of vanilla extract. I would do 1/2 teaspoon for added sweetness to the fruit.
- Use ripe peaches that are peeled, if you want a fresh peach cobbler recipe. Just place peach slices all over the top of the batter.
- Add in honey or maple syrup in replace of the white sugar.
- You can use your favorite artificial sweetener in replace of the sugar. Just convert how much sweetener to use.
- Add in 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice or fresh orange juice. Then add 1 lemon zest or 1 orange zest for a citrus twist.
- Top the peaches with some chopped pecans or walnuts if you want a crunch factor.
- Add in some fresh raspberries, blueberries, or even strawberries for added fruity flavor.
- Sprinkle on 1/3 cup coconut flakes for a twist to this easy cobbler recipe.
- Instead of melting butter in the oven, you can do melted butter in the microwave for 30 seconds to a minute. Then just pour it into the baking dish.
- Swap the granulated sugar with light brown sugar for a warm caramel tone to enhance the peach filling of this dessert.

Expert Tips For Success
- When you go to pour the wet batter over the butter, do not mix the butter and the wet mixture together.
- Same for placing the peach mixture on top. Place the peaches but do not stir the mixture. It will bake up perfectly without stirring.
- Make sure to spread the peaches all over the top of the batter. Then the top of the peaches will sink in a bit as the batter rises and bakes up.
- Do not overmix the batter, as it will make it very dense and affect the light texture.
- A preheated oven is key, that way when you place the cobbler in to bake it instantly starts baking.
- Use a toothpick to stick in the cobbler mixture and if it comes out clean of wet batter it is done. You will also find it creates a golden brown topping next to the juicy peaches.
Storing Leftovers
Refrigerate: I always recommend refrigerating leftover fruit cobblers. This is going to ensure it stores the longest. It will last for up to 5 days in the fridge. If you store at room temperature it will last 1-2 days.
Freezer: Go right ahead and freeze any of the cobblers you don’t want to eat right away. Place in a freezer-friendly container and freeze for 2-3 months. Then thaw in the fridge overnight. Eat the leftover cobbler chilled or warm it up in the microwave or oven.
FAQs
Any type of fruit works for this recipe. Fresh fruit or frozen fruit are both welcome as well as canned. Apples, berries, sliced pears, etc. Just peel the fruit first like apples and pears so they don’t offer a chewy texture.
A cobbler is a cake-biscuit-like topping. Whereas a crisp is made with oats, flour, brown sugar, and sometimes nuts. The filling can be the same but the topping to the dessert is totally different in terms of texture and flavor.
Use less sugar if you want to make a less sweet cobbler. Also reach for cans of peaches that are in juice and not a heavy syrup, as that will offer added sweetness.
