How to Make Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
Full directions on how to make air fryer tortilla chips are below in the recipe card. This is a visual walk through to help you see exactly how to make this crispy corn tortilla chip recipe.
Step One: Begin to slice your tortillas into 6 equal triangles. As you can see I stacked my tortillas, and then sliced them at the same time.
Step Two: Depending on your air fryer you might need to preheat the air fryer for 2-3 minutes. Some air fryers do not need preheating so refer to your manual. I preheated my air fryer for 2 minutes.
Step Three: Lay out some tortillas on a tray and brush with oil and then add seasoning of choice. Do both sides of the tortillas.
Step Four: Now place some of the tortillas in the air fryer in a single layer. It is imperative you do not overlap the chips. Cook for 2 minutes then flip the tortillas over and cook again.
Pro Tip: Watch your tortilla chips closely as they can overcook very fast. Depending on how your air fryer cooks the cooking time will vary.
How to Bake Tortilla Chips
Don’t have an air fryer? If so, no worries you can bake these chips as well. Follow the same instructions just place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 4-6 minutes. Flip the chips and cook for around 2-3 minutes or until the chips are crispy.
Helpful Tips For Making
- Aim to cut your tortillas in even slices, so you get an even cook.
- Single layer of chips is key because if the tortillas overlap you will have an uneven cook.
- Depending on the air fryer cook time varies, so use it as a guide in terms of how long to cook.
- Season when you have the oil on, so the salt or seasoning of choice sticks to the tortillas.
Storing
Allow the tortilla chips to fully cool and then you can place in a sealed bag or container. These chips will store at room temperature for 3-5 days depending on how crunchy they are. I find they are best served within the first day or fresh. But they do stay crunchy for a few days!
Seasoning Ideas
- Sprinkle of salt
- Cinnamon and Sugar – for a dessert chip
- Garlic salt with parsley
- Cajun seasoning
- Light sprinkle of taco seasoning
