Ingredients Needed
Oreos – You will want to buy your favorite flavor of Oreos! I used plain, but you can use flavored Oreos. I used the family sized package.
Cream Cheese – Make sure the cream cheese is softened so it mixes well with the other ingredients.
Candy Melts – Green, blue, and orange are the three colors I used for making these monster balls. Use any colors that you want.
Candy Eyes – You can buy these in the baking aisle next to the sprinkles or shop online and ship to your home.
Serve up a delicious Halloween orange float for a fun drink to serve next to the Oreo balls.
Tools Needed
Food Processor – You can use a food processor to pulse and crumble up the cookies into fine crumbs. Now, you can also put the Oreos in a bag and use a rolling pin to crush up the cookies as well.
Cookie Scoop – I love using a cookie scoop as it will create evenly shaped balls. Feel free to use any size of scoop, I like to use smaller sized scoop. So it makes these a bite-size dessert.
Baking Sheet – Line a baking sheet with wax paper or a silicone mat, to create a non-stick surface. The tray is going to help when you place your melted chocolate covered balls on the pan to air dry.
How to Make
Full directions for making these Halloween Oreo balls are in printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a quick walk through.
Step One: Prep your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Step Two: Now in a food processor pulse your cookies to create a fine crumb texture. You can also add Oreos into a bag and use a rolling pin to finely crush cookies.
Step Three: Now add Oreos into a bowl, along with the cream cheese. Mix well to create a soft dough that is fully mixed.
Step Four: Refrigerate the cookie dough mixture for at least 30 minutes. Cover and place in the fridge or place in an airtight container.
Step Five: Next you will scoop up the dough and roll into small balls. I used the tablespoon size scoop. Place back on the tray and then freeze for 1 hour.
Step Six: Next you will heat up all three colors of chocolate separately. Then you will dip your balls into the chocolate and shake off excess.
Step Seven: While the chocolate is still wet on the balls, add on candy eyes all over the balls. Then allow the Oreo balls to set up.
Storing
Once your delicious Oreo truffles are fully dry and the chocolate firms you can remove from the cookie sheet and place in an airtight container. Then store these candy eyeballs truffles in the fridge for 4-7 days.
You can also freeze these perfect bite-sized treats. Just store in the freezer for 2-3 months. Then thaw in the fridge overnight, or on the counter for about an hour. Then enjoy the sweet treat!
Tips and Variations
Use any color of candy melts as you would like. You can’t add food coloring to white chocolate as it can cause it to seize up. So that is why I recommend buying candy melts.
Decorate your Oreo truffles any way you want. I like the candy eyes but you can do any design you want. Or grab some Halloween sprinkles to add onto the top.
You can use other types of cookies instead of Oreos. Even the soft baked sugar cookies from Lofthouse would be a fun cookie to use.
