How to Make
Full directions on how to make these Halloween jello shots is in the printable recipe card below. This is a quick visual walk through on how it is made.
Step One: Place your Jello cups on a lined tray, I used 10 Jello cups.
Step Two: Now you will work on your black Jello. In a pot bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
Step Three: Once the water is boiling remove from heat, and pour in the orange jello. Mix until it is fully dissolved, this takes 2-3 minutes.
Step Four: Next add in the vodka, and 1/2 cup cold water. Stir in the black food dye and whisk to combine.
Step Five: Pour the black jello and pour one quarter of it in each cup. Refrigerate 30 minutes.
Step Six: Work on the white layer of jello once the black jello is set for 30 minutes. Heat up the boiling water, and mix in the unflavored jello. Then stir in the simple syrup, condensed milk, and cold water.
Step Seven: Add in the vodka and once mixed pour on top of the black layer. Do 1/2 way up the cup.
Step Eight: Refrigerate again for 30 minutes, then add the next layer of black, then another layer of white.
Step Nine: Right before serving, top with the lime green sprinkles and enjoy.
Storing Jello Shots
You will want to store your plastic cups with the lids on in the fridge. I do recommend not adding on the sprinkles until right before serving as it will bleed a bit of the color as it sits in the fridge.
You can make these up a day or two before your next party if you want. These jello shots store for 3-4 days in the fridge. The perfect boozy Halloween tasty jello shots recipe.
Variations and Tips
- Use a different flavor of jello – cherry jello would make a delicious cherry jello shots flavor.
- Do different colors of food coloring if you want to change up the look.
- Add in tonic water instead of cold water when making the white layer. Tonic water glows which would make this a fun shot that is a huge hit.
- You can taste and add a little extra simple syrup to add a little extra sweetness if you want.
- Any flavor of the jello works, just know if you want to change the color, know the color of jello will affect the outcome of the color.
- Top differently if you want. You could do gummy worms, gummy eyeballs for an eyeball jello shots idea, and more.
- Top with a little black sanding sugar if you want to add a perfect addition to the sprinkles.
