Ingredients
Pop Tarts – Any flavor you want works! I went with a strawberry flavor as it was pink icing!
Graham Crackers – You will break your cracker into pieces and glue on with your frosting. Any flavor works!
Strawberry Frosting – The frosting is your glue. I just used store bought frosting. If you want you can make homemade.
Pretzel Sticks – I used pretzel sticks to decorate the room of the edible house.
Candies for Decorating – I used a few different items to decorate my fairy house with. Miniature mushroom candies, green Jimmies sprinkles, mini flowers, leaf sprinkles, etc.Â
How to Make
Step 1: Place pop tarts on cutting board, and cut top corners in an angle. This will be the peaks. Do this on 2 of the pop tarts.
Step 2: With one pop tart cut a door into it. Just a rectangle at the bottom center works great.
Step 3: Now you will take your frosting, I just used store bought strawberry. Any flavor works. Put into a piping bag, or ziploc bag. Cut the tip off the end.
Step 4: Next, break a graham cracker in half, and use each portion for the sides of the house. Use the frosting as the glue. Make a strip on the graham cracker, and press into the pop tart.
Repeat and let this sit for 5-10 minutes or until it is hardened a bit.
Step 5: For this step, you will add more of your frosting on the edges of your pop tart, for the roof to attach. The roof is a part of a graham cracker you break in half.
Step 6: Secure both sides of the roof on the poptart, and again let it sit a few minutes to set up the frosting.
Step 7: Next, work on the roof. I added strips of frosting, followed by pretzel sticks to create the wooden roof. Repeat the process till all pretzels are on the roof.
Step 8: Then you will add a layer of frosting where the roof peaks, and add on your candy flower garnishes.
Step 9: Then, once you have the frame of the house done and roof, now you get to decorate. I added some frosting on the sides so the candies could stick on it.
Step 10: Take your candies and stick it into the frosting. I added candy mushrooms, leaf sprinkles, green sugar sprinkles, etc. Have fun and be creative.
Step 11: Next, I repeated the same frosting on the front side, making a thick layer for items to stick too.
Step 12: Decorate the front of the fairy gingerbread house, and you are finished!
Expert Tip: Make sure to let the frosting set up when you are working on the frame of the gingerbread house. As a result, the frosting will set up, and give you a sturdy foundation. Otherwise, your gingerbread house can fall apart.
