This Ice Cream Treat Is…
- Made to look like a fried chicken leg, but really it is ice cream.
- Creamy, crunchy, sweet.
- A no bake dessert.
- Inspired by Life Raft Treats.
- Tik Tok Viral dessert recipe.
Ingredients
Ice Cream – Any ice cream, quality vanilla ice cream is best.
Twix – Mini Twix Bars or other smaller stick style chocolate.
White Chocolate – I used white chocolate chips but even white melting chocolate wafers work.
Corn Flakes – Crushed finely to mimic the breading of fried chicken.
How to Make
Full steps and measurements are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a visual walk through.
- Begin by placing the cold ice cream in a large bowl. Prepare a cutting board or clean surface to place the ice cream on, which can then go in the freezer.
- Put on your gloves and have the Twix bars ready to use. Take a handful of ice cream and flatten it in your palm. Place a Twix bar in the center and add more ice cream on top.
- Mold the ice cream around the Twix bar to create a chicken drumstick shape. Work quickly to prevent the ice cream from melting and your hands from getting cold.
- Once you have the desired shape, place the ice cream drumstick on the cutting board. You can use a spoon to smooth and shape it further while it’s on the board.
- Repeat this process with the remaining ice cream and Twix bars.
- Once all the drumsticks are complete, place the platter in the freezer for two hours.
- About 30 minutes before the two hours are up, melt the white chocolate in the microwave at 30-second intervals until smooth.
- Crush the cornflakes into small pieces.
- Once your station is prepared, remove the ice cream drumsticks from the freezer.
- Pick up each drumstick and dip it first into the white chocolate, coating it completely, then into the crushed cornflakes. Pat and cover every inch of the white chocolate and reshape the drumstick as needed to maintain its appearance.
- Place the coated drumsticks back on the platter and repeat with the remaining ice cream.
- Once finished, return the platter to the freezer for another two hours.
When ready to eat, remove the drumsticks from the freezer and enjoy!
Tips For Success
Here are some tips for making fried chicken-shaped ice cream chicken legs:
Use a cold bowl to store the ice cream and keep it as cold as possible while shaping it. You can even put the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before you start.
Work quickly and use gloves to prevent the ice cream from melting and your hands from getting too cold.
Flatten the ice cream in your hand and use your fingers to create a cavity in the center where you can place the Twix bar.
Use your fingers to mold the ice cream around the Twix bar and shape it into a chicken drumstick. Keep the shape uniform and smooth.
Use a spoon to smooth and shape the ice cream as needed while it’s on the cutting board.
Once you have created the desired shape, place the drumstick on the platter and work on the next one.
When dipping the ice cream in white chocolate and corn flakes, use a fork to hold the drumstick and gently shake off any excess coating.
If you’re having trouble keeping the ice cream cold while working, you can put the platter in the freezer for a few minutes in between shaping and coating the drumsticks.
Serve the ice cream chicken legs immediately after removing them from the freezer to prevent melting.
Storing
These “Not” fried chicken ice cream treats need to be eaten after you make them. If you don’t plan to eat right away place it on a tray and place it back in the freezer for 1-2 hours. Once nice and frozen transfer to a freezer-friendly container.
You will find as time goes the cornflakes lose that “crunch” as it sits in the freezer. So these are truly best to serve after you made them up. But they will freeze for up to a month.
