How to Make
Full directions on how to make this chocolate cake donut are in the printable recipe card below as well as the donut icing. This is a quick walk-through.
Step 1: Mix the ingredients and combine well. Make sure to scrape down the sides of bowl.
Step 2: Put the mixture into a piping bag and pipe it into the baking pan.
Step 3: Bake in the oven until done. Then allow the donuts to cool a few minutes in pan before trying to remove.
Step 4: Make homemade icing and drizzle on top of the cooked donuts once they are cool.
Expert Tips
- Make certain that the donuts are done cooking before letting them start the cooling process. The easiest way to check and see if the donuts are done is to use a toothpick and stick in the donut. If the toothpick comes out clean, the donuts are done and ready to be taken out of the oven. If the toothpick has batter on it, the donuts need a few more moments in the oven to bake.
- The easiest way to drizzle frosting is to use a fork and just lightly shake it above the donuts. This shakes off a small amount of the frosting and gives that drizzled and glazed look.
Once you realize that it’s not hard to make this recipe, there’s going to be no stopping you! You just might find yourself making homemade donuts literally all the time. And I have a feeling everyone in the house would be totally okay with that.
Variations to Recipe
Even though I believe that these donuts are totally perfect the way that they are, there are a few things that you can do to change up the taste.
- Don’t forget about the toppings. Toppings are a fast and easy way to change up the taste fast. You can use a different type of frosting or glaze as well as sprinkle on some fun nuts, shredded coconut, or other fun toppings that you’re craving.
- Take some crushed Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies and crumble on top.
- Do a classic chocolate glaze instead of the green colored glaze.
