Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 3 cup Beef Stock as needed
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • 3 small Onions diced
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sage
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  • Start by adding your oil and onions into a pan on the stove. Heat over medium heat, sauteing the onions for 5-8 minutes. You want to create a golden brown color on the onions. Make sure to lower heat if you see they are beginning to burn.
  • Next toss in the salt, pepper, thyme and sage, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir for a minute then pour in the beef broth.
  • Bring the onion gravy mixture to a boil then lower the heat to a simmer to allow it to slowly cook and reduce.
  • Whisk in the heavy cream stirring often, and continue to let it simmer for around 5 minutes.
  • Once the onion gravy reaches your desired thickness, taste and then season as you need, and serve up the gravy.

Notes

Onions - You will want to use yellow or white onions for this recipe. Vidalia onions work great as they offer a nice savory and hint of sweet to the gravy.
Mushrooms - If you want stir in some mushroom to add even more flavor to the gravy.
Spices and Seasonings - Feel free to change up the gravy as you need. This is what we used but feel free to change it up if you want a different flavor.
Storing - Store your homemade onion gravy in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
Thicken - If you want an even thicker gravy mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch to 1 tablespoon cold water and stir in at the end of cooking to thicken the gravy.
