Instructions

  • In a bowl you will want to add your granulated sugar and cornstarch. Whisk to mix.
  • Then add in the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and water. Whisk well.
  • To cook the Kung Pao sauce, heat a pan on medium heat and pour in the sauce. Cook until the sauce is thickened.
  • This takes just a couple of minutes. Once thick, pour on rice, or use as a stir fry sauce to mix with vegetables or meat or even tofu.

Notes

Stir Fry - When you use sauce for a stir fry cook up the meat or veggies until almost done. Then at the 2 minute mark stir in the sauce, and it will become nice and thick and stick to the other food. Stir constantly or it will burn. Remove from heat and serve.
Rice - Basmati and Jasmine are two types of rice that go well with this Chinese stir fry sauce.
Spice up Sauce - Add in some red chili flakes or chilies peppers diced up for added spice to the sauce. Mix in the same time you mix up the rest of the ingredients.
Sweetness - Now you can add less or more sugar. If you need a sugar free option use your favorite artificial sweetener of choice. Add sweetener to flavor. The sweetener can leave a bit of a different flavor to the sauce but delicious.
Storage - You can store this sauce uncooked in the fridge or cook it and store it in the fridge. Then to reheat warm up in the microwave. To cook you will stir well and cook on the stove on medium heat until thickened.
Freezing - You can freeze the sauce for 2 months if you would like. Make sure to freeze in an airtight container or sealable bag. Then thaw in the fridge overnight before you plan to serve.
