Instant Pot Whole Chicken

Instant Pot Whole Chicken is a rotisserie chicken that is flavored with lemon and garlic. You have a tender and moist whole chicken pressure cooked. Can be made in a Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot Duo Crisp for crisping the skin of the chicken.

Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 pound roasting chicken internal pieces removed and patted dry
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup chicken stock or water
  • 1 lemon halved
  • 1 head garlic halved
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Fresh rosemary if desired
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Start by adding your chicken stock or water into the Instant Pot, and then place trivet in the pressure cooker.
  • Now remove the innards and gizzards of your chicken, and then fill with the garlic, lemon, and fresh rosemary if you choose to use it.
  • Then pour the oil over the chicken and season the skin with the pepper, salt, dried rosemary, and coat all areas of the chicken.
  • Carefully place the seasoned whole chicken on the trivet. Place lid on the pressure cooker, and turn the valve to sealing. Pressure cook manual or high pressure for 25 minutes. Followed by 15 minutes of natural release once the cook time is up. Press off any remaining pressure.
  • With a meat thermometer check the chicken to ensure it reaches 165 degrees internally. If not you will need to cook an additional 5-10 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven on broil, or skip this if you are using the crisping lid on Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot Duo Crisp.
  • Once chicken is done place on a baking sheet and broil 5-8 minutes or until the skin is crisp.
  • Remove chicken from the oven and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing into to your chicken.

Notes

Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot Duo Crisp Directions | Pressure cook as directed and instead of broiling just swap over to the crisping lid and crisp your chicken until it is golden brown!
Cooking Frozen Whole Chicken In Instant Pot | Here are the cooking times below on cooking a whole chicken in Instant Pot.
  • 3 pounds frozen chicken – 33 minutes.
  • 4 pounds frozen chicken – 44 minutes.
  • 5 pounds frozen chicken – 55 minutes.
Add 11 minutes per pound and then make sure to natural release for 15 minutes once cooked.
The internal temperature of the chicken needs to reach 165 degrees. Every chicken will vary in cook time so ensure you use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked.
