Air fryer hush puppies are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or side dish. Learn how to make perfectly crispy and flavorful hush puppies in your air fryer. Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce for a Southern-inspired treat that everyone will love.
To make the hush puppies, start by mixing the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper in a medium bowl until well blended. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk, then stir in the minced onion and cream-style corn. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix together.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place about a cup of cornmeal in a shallow bowl. Roll the hush puppies into small balls, then roll them in the cornmeal and place them on the parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Place the hush puppies in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Remove the hush puppies from the freezer and place them in the air fryer basket. Spray the hush puppies with oil spray and set the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, and the time to 10 minutes.
Check the hush puppies halfway through cooking, turn them over, and spray them again with oil spray. Finish cooking the hush puppies until golden brown on the outside and cooked through in the middle. If necessary, add 3 minutes and cook again until they are completely done in the center.
Once the hush puppies are done, sprinkle them with finely minced parsley and serve with ketchup. Enjoy!
Notes
Flour - All purpose flour is what I used. Make sure to scoop into measuring cup and level off. Cornmeal - I used yellow cornmeal for this recipe. Add in Items - Consider dicing up a jalapeno pepper, shredded cheese, etc. Done - The hush puppies are done when the hush puppies are golden on the outside and done in the center, and not dough-y. Golden Crispy Texture - Use cooking spray to spray on the balls to help create a crispy outside.
