Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • teal, yellow, and red food coloring
  • 1 tube black decorating icing

Instructions

  • In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer cream your butter and granulated sugar for 2-3 minutes. You want the color to lighten up and will become ultra creamy.
  • Add in the egg and vanilla. Make sure to scrape down the sides.
  • In a medium bowl add all your dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Slowly incorporate the flour into the wet ingredients. Mix until it is combined.
  • Separate the dough into 3 different bowls. Then color one bowl red, teal, and then one yellow. Cover each bowl and refrigerate an hour.
  • Once the dough is chilled preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Then add parchment paper to the cookie sheets.
  • Place the colored cookie dough on a floured surface. Do balls of different colors of dough, this will create a tie-dye look.
  • Roll the cookie dough out, and then use the cookie cutter to make the cookies, and place on the baking sheet.
  • Bake as directed and then allow the cookies to cool.
  • Once the cookies are cooled use the black icing and add stiches where the colors of cookie dough meet on the cookies.
