How To Pick Ripe Watermelons
Now you know a handful of awesome benefits of watermelon; now you need to head to the store and pick some up. Cutting open a watermelon to find it isn’t ripe is never fun. Here is how to pick ripe melons! Here are the tricks I have used to find ripe watermelons at the store and even farmer’s markets!
Yellow Spot on Bottom
Buttery Yellow Spot on the bottom (not white or green). White or green means the watermelon didn’t ripen on the vine and was picked a little soon.
Heavy for Size
Next, you want the watermelon to feel heavy for its size. How I test, this is pick up a handful of melons and compare which feel heavier and have that yellow spot on the bottom.
I have found both of these seem to help me find the perfect melon. These two tricks have helped me through the years, and I can pick a delicious watermelon!
